Digital Freedom

Digital Freedom is one of the precious freedom of individual in this era. Some of countries have already considered Internet as part of Human Rights. Exercising traditional human rights  like freedom of expression (FOE), individual privacy in cyber space along with universal access to technology are part of the Digital Freedom. FDE believes in open, transparent, accountable and inclusive Internet and defends this for the people. Digital Freedom Summit is flagship annual event of FDE to discuss the issues and challenges of Digital Freedom in Nepal along with monitoring the freedom issues in Nepal. To ensure Digital Freedom, FDE supports legal assistance to the journalists and bloggers and has been engaged in Strategic Litigation to defend Freedom Online. Forum for Digital Equality started the first-ever formal discussion on Internet Governance in Nepal in 2008, in collaboration with High Level Commission for Information Technology (HLCIT) and Internet Society Nepal. We were also the co-organizer of the first ever School on Internet Governance (NPSIG) in 2018 and the partner of Nepal Internet Governance Forum (Nepal IGF) in 2017, 2018 and National Partner of 12th Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum, 2021 which was held in Hybrid-Kathmandu mode. Our Executive Director Mr. Babu Ram Aryal is the founding Vice-chair of Multi-Stakeholder Steering Group (MSG) of Nepal IGF and former Vice-chair of Asia Pacific Internet Governance Forum (APrIGF) (Year 2018-2020). FDE is has been contributing in Asia Pacific Internet Governance Forum and Internet Governance Forum through workshops and other representations.
